Birding Walks along the Kawarau River have the possibility of critically endangered White Heron, newly famous Crested Grebe, the Southern Hemisphere’s Black Swan, our diving ducks the Scaup, Eurasian Coot, Falcon amongst other visitors. Our guided walks also seek out native backyard birds over a cup of tea including Tui, White eye, Grey Warbler and Fantails.

Learn about the conservation and how we protect our birds locally and all over New Zealand from introduced species. See endemic and native species in their natural habitat underneath the Remarkable Mountains.

Active participation in Citizen Science/Conservation projects including:

Highlights Tour: approximately 2 hours with 5km walking. Start and finish Remarkables Park. Private tour $100 for up to 4 people.

Extended Tour: allow 3-4 hours (longer if we are really enjoying ourselves and doing well). Walking total is about 8km with some undulation, but we are not in a hurry! This tour is great if you are taking the bus or need a beer afterwards as we can finish either at a brewery or the Hilton Hotel where you can catch the Water taxi back to town. Private tour $200 for up to 4 people.

Walking is all on shared track, there are cyclists, runners and dogs present. Sensible shoes recommended.
